Generation C6 : 2005-2010
The current generation (the C6 Corvette) started in 2005. Again, a new generation meant an almost completely new car. Overall body dimensions shrunk in both length and width, but wheelbase increased, making for a shorter nose and tail. General body shape remained true to recent models, but crisper lines emerged from the more fluid curves of the previous C5 Corvettes. Fenders once again arched up over the massive wheels, becoming more defined and giving a more muscular look. Headlights were exposed, ending a 41 year tradition of Corvettes with hide-a-way headlights. The hardtop body style was dropped, leaving customers with a choice between the Coupe and Convertible.

C6 Corvette History
2005 also saw the introduction of a powerful new small block, the LS2. This new base model engine was a 6.0L and rated at 400 hp and 400 ft/lbs of torque. The following year, 2006, offered an even larger small block; the 505 hp 7.0L LS7 for the Z06 Corvette. It's 427 ci displacement was reminiscent of the classic 1966 Corvette 427 big block, but other than numbers they had nothing in common. The 2006 LS7 was a small block, not a big block, and generated almost 100 hp more then the older 427. A true case of modern engineering at work.
